From the Bedside to Your Inbox — The Story Behind The Savvy Nurse Shop

My name is April Calvert, LPN, and I've spent my entire adult life in service — first to my country, and then to my patients.

I began my healthcare journey in 1990 as an OR Tech (91D) in the United States Military. After my service, I worked in a small community wearing many hats — Surgical Tech, CNA, Ward Clerk, and ER Tech. I was drawn to every corner of healthcare because I genuinely love people and I love the work.

In 2006, I graduated from LPN school and was honored with the Florence Nightingale Award — a recognition that means the world to me and continues to guide how I show up for my patients every single day.

A Nurse Who Never Stopped Problem-Solving

After graduation, I traveled from state to state as a nurse specializing in Geriatrics. In the field, I kept noticing the same challenge: nurses pushing and pulling heavy medicine carts, struggling with ergonomics, and facing conditions that could contribute to medication errors.

I didn't just notice the problem — I did something about it. I invented and patented a better way to deliver medications to residents, one that could help prevent medication errors and protect the physical wellbeing of the nurses doing the work. Today, I hold two patents for the Height-Adjustable Medicine Cart.

In 2023, I entered "The Pitch" — a business plan competition in Tupelo, Mississippi — and I won. That experience sharpened my entrepreneurial skills and showed me how to align my passion with the demands of the marketplace.

Why The Savvy Nurse Shop?

I created The Savvy Nurse Shop because nurses deserve resources that truly speak to their lives. Whether you're navigating the daily realities of patient care, thinking about what's next in your career, or supporting a loved one through dementia — I've been there. I've lived it.

Everything in this shop is created with nurses and healthcare professionals in mind — practical, warm, and grounded in real experience.

I am a proud caregiver and a Licensed Practical Nurse. This shop is my way of continuing to serve.
